Thinking about Counselling?
I know that when people consider counselling to help address a particular issue it is usually a big step for them. For many people; there are often additional anxieties stemming from unanswered questions about what’s usually involved in counselling. Please read the information below, which may be useful to you.
Counselling Process:
Counselling can help you to make sense of your life, resolve specific problems, help you to make decisions, deal with phobia, stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, addictions, abuse, bereavement, divorce or separation, conflict with others, relationships, and many other issues affecting emotional and mental well-being. An aspect of counselling which is not widely known is that you don’t have to have ‘a problem’ to see a counsellor. Counselling can help a person get the very most of what is already going well for a person. It can help identify potential triggers for problems and put in place strategies and methods, which would help minimise the problem occurring.
The First Session:
In your first session, I will briefly explain the counselling process, outline issues of confidentiality and make you aware of ‘your rights and responsibilities’. Some of these are provided for your information below.
As a client, you have a right to expect that:
- You will be treated with respect
- You will receive a clear explanation of the service you will receive
- Your consent for any service will be sought by the counsellor prior to the service commencing and as it progresses
- You will receive an explanation about the nature and limits of confidentiality surrounding the service
- You will receive a competent and professional service
- You will receive a clear statement about fees
- You will be clear about the outcome that you and the counsellor are working toward
- You will receive a service free from sexual harassment
- You will be shown respect for your cultural background and language tradition
Initial Information Needed:
Basic contact details such as name, address, telephone numbers, doctors contact details etc will be needed for general and accountability reasons.
An initial assessment of the issues will be conducted during our first session and together we will look at options to resolve these issues.
Number of Sessions and Session Length:
The number of sessions estimated to resolve a particular issue is determined by the type of issue you bring to counselling and the amount of time you put into resolving the issues outside of counselling. Usually, the average number of sessions is between six to ten. Each session is of one-hour duration and usually occurs weekly. However, you may choose to space it out fortnightly sessions or longer based on your time commitments and resources.
Session Fees:
The fee for a one-hour session is $130. This fee should be paid 24 hours before your appointment. Unfortunately, there are no rebates associated with this fee.
Please be on time:
As session times are made specifically for you, being late reduces the remaining time available to you. Session fees will still be charged for the amount of time originally allocated.
Cancellation Policy:
Cancellation of an appointment may be made at least 24 hours prior to the appointment without incurring a fee. Cancellations for Monday appointments cannot occur the previous Sunday, as this is a nonworking day. Cancellations for Monday need to occur the previous Saturday, by 12 PM.
Missed Session Policy:
Missed sessions are regarded as session/appointment times which was mutually made and put aside for you but were forgotten about or missed without prior notification being given. These missed sessions will be charged at $95 As there is insufficient time to book another person into that timeslot.
